Frequently Asked Questions
What is The Real Escape?
The Real Escape is a live exit game in which teams of two to six people are locked in a room. Together they must find clues in order to unlock the door and make their escape!
How many rooms do you have?
We have three rooms
‘The Chamber of the Deep‘
‘Dr Ryddle’s Memories‘
‘The Guardians of the Elixir’
a maximum of 6 players per room at any time.
What are your opening times?
The Real Escape is available Monday to Sunday 12pm until 10pm and has staggered start times.
Games must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. Please check available dates and times on our calendar.
Can I hold a party or company event at The Real Escape?
The Real Escape can be hired to host a stag/hen, birthday party, company or any other event and can accommodate up to 18 people per hour, with up to 6 in each room as all our escape games can function simultaneously.
We’d recommend splitting up your large group into smaller groups and reserve 1 session (3 different games).
We have staggered start times (ie 12:00, 12:20, 12:40) so please book your slots as it appears on our calendar however if you all arrive together we will let you into the rooms at the same time (ie at 12:00).
We’d love to help! If you’d like to talk to us about your requirements, please contact email@example.com
Who can play?
The Real Escape is best played in a team of four or five, but a minimum of two and a maximum of six can book a session.
We recommend that players are aged 14 and over. At least half of the team must be adult aged 18 or over.
How long does a game take?
The length of the experience varies from team to team but we find that the average session lasts about an hour. Staff will hold a short instruction briefing before each game.
Will we get help if we get stuck in the game?
Players get the most out of the game when they work together to find the answers themselves.
But if a team gets really stuck, The Real Escape team can provide helpful clues.
Is it scary?
The game does not contain any frightening, distressing or adult-themed content. However, The Real Escape experience does include darkness, sound and flashing lights. We recommend players are over the age of 14 because of the challenging nature of the puzzles you will encounter.
How big is the room?
The room is comfortably big enough to accommodate teams of up to six people – and the game involves moving around within the space.
Is The Real Escape suitable for visitors with limited mobility or wheelchair users?
We want The Real Escape to be a challenge that everyone can enjoy.
We welcome disabled visitors and two of our rooms are wheelchair-accessible. Please note that for space and safety reasons we are only able to accommodate one wheelchair in each group.
Dr Ryddle’s Memories and the Guardians of the Elixir are indeed wheelchair accessible, however the Chamber of the Deep is not.
We do not have any stairs at The Real Escape so players with limited mobility could take part and enjoy all our games.
Please contact us to discuss your requirements before booking.
Are we really locked inside the room?
The aim of the game is to find the key to unlock the door to make your escape. The Real Escape team is able to monitor players’ progress from outside the room and can open the door at any time if there is a problem. There is also a green emergency button in the room that players can press if they want to abandon the game and open the door.
Is the game difficult?
The game is designed to be challenging! However, the vast majority of teams will be able to complete it if they think laterally and work together.
You can see the escape rate when booking to help you decide which room to try first.
Do you have any advice for someone new to the game?
Be aware of your surroundings, talk the puzzles through with your team-mates and, most importantly, work together to solve the problems.
How many people can play the game at once?
We recommend that for the best experience, players book in teams of four or five. However, we are able to accept a minimum of two and a maximum of six players.
Is there an age restriction?
Due to the difficulty of the puzzles, we recommend that players are aged 14 or over, and that any players aged under 18 are accompanied by at least two adults aged 18 or over.
Players under the age of 14 can have difficulty to recognise or understand the correlation between puzzles. However a team with at least 2 adult members can also enjoy the game and can have a good time together as a family!
Can I play in a team of less than three people?
The Real Escape is best played in a team of four or five, but a minimum of two and a maximum of six can book a session. We would not advise playing as a team of two, however, it is possible to book for two people.
What if I want to add extra people to the game?
As long as your team is less than six players you can add extra people on the day and pay cash or card.
For safety reasons we are unable to accept more than six players at a time.
Do you mix teams with other members of the public?
No, we do not mix players with other members of the public to fill up the room.
So it is possible to book for 2 players and add extra team members by paying the difference on the day with cash or any major credit card.
I’m pregnant – is The Real Escape safe for me?
The Real Escape is a real workout for the brain but does not involve any heavy lifting or strenuous activity. It is perfectly safe for pregnant women to play.
What time should I arrive for my reservation?
Please arrive 10 minutes before the time you have booked so we can ensure you are ready when your time slot begins.
Can we play without making a reservation?
Only people who have pre-booked a time-slot via our website are permitted to play.
Can I pay by cash?
We only accept bookings online and players can pay using all major credit cards, which are securely processed by PayPal.
You can pay for an extra player with cash on the day you are booked in, as long as the team remains six players or under.
How can I book a game?
Please go to our BOOKING page and follow the booking instructions there.
Can I cancel or modify my booking?
If you wish to add players on the day, up to a maximum of six players, you can add extra people when you arrive at The Real Escape by paying with cash or a card.
What do we need to bring to the game?
We recommend you wear flat shoes but other than that, just bring yourselves!
Can I bring alcohol into the room?
The Real Escape does not tolerate the use of alcohol, illegal drugs or “legal highs”.
Players judged to be under the influence of these substances will be banned from the game.
Are cameras allowed at The Real Escape?
Surprise and mystery are important elements of the experience at The Real Escape, for this reason the taking of photographs is not permitted inside the game areas. We also provide secure locker facilities for your personal belongings whilst in the room.
